Our Beginning

The SMA Healthcare Foundation was founded in 1997 by James Foster at the request of Reverend Hal Marchman and Dr. Ernest Cantley.

The Foundation was initially established to support Stewart-Marchman Center and addiction services in Flagler and Volusia Counties. In 2008, Stewart-Marchman Center merged with ACT Corporation and became Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare. In 2018, Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare rebranded to SMA Healthcare and the Foundation became formally known as the SMA Healthcare Foundation.

With the 2008 merger, the Foundation expanded its support to include mental health services. As SMA Healthcare grew, so did the Foundation and today it supports addiction and mental health services in Flagler, Marion, Putnam, St. Johns, and Volusia Counties.
