PALATKA – SMA Healthcare is excited to announce the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Palatka Drop-In Center will take place Thursday, March 19, from 3-5 p.m. The location for the newly-renovated Drop-In Center is 521 S. 13th Street, Palatka, FL.
“This ceremony is the culmination of a lot of hard work, and we are excited to officially open our new location for the Drop-In Center,” said Nancy Russo, vice president of Putnam County services. “The new location will allow us to offer a fresh space to provide the best services possible to our clients in Putnam County.”
The goal of the Drop-In Center is to provide a safe place for adults in the community with mental illness to learn, socialize, and support one another in their journey to healing. Adults aged 18 and over who struggle with mental health symptoms are eligible to use the drop-in center-there is no fee for this service.
Individuals may drop in any time between 9 am-5 pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) and will be asked to provide minimal demographic information.
Some of the activities and groups offered by the Drop-In Center include psychoeducational groups – mindfulness, cognitive behavior theory, identity – team building, and games and crafts. The Drop-In center also offers assistance with the Florida Ready to Work Program.
Funding for the renovations of the drop-in center came from multiple sources, including $36,000 from the SMA Healthcare Foundation and a $15,000 Clay Electric Foundation grant. The Foundation has also contributed to the cost of fresh landscaping for the property. This type of support is a vital part of SMA’s ability to accomplish its mission and provide much-needed services to the community.
