DELAND – SMA Healthcare (SMA) is pleased to announce the construction of a new, state-of-the-art integrated behavioral health treatment facility in West Volusia County. The new facility will be built adjacent to the men’s residential treatment facility in DeLand, which is located at 1251 North Stone Street.
“The goal of this new treatment facility is to provide greater healthcare access for citizens in the community,” said SMA Healthcare CEO Ivan Cosimi. “Our mission is to help individuals find the hope, healing, and recovery that they need, and this new healthcare facility will provide that.”
This facility will expand healthcare opportunities for clients in West Volusia who are currently traveling far or even leaving the county for services. With the increased access to behavioral health resources, clients will be able to receive mental health outpatient services, substance use treatment, and a variety of other services in a centralized location.
At this new, integrated location, SMA Healthcare will operate the following services and programs:
• Walk-in Screenings
• Outpatient Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling
• Psychiatric Medication Management
• Drug Court Counseling
• Peer Support
• Case Management
• Mobile Crisis Response Team
• Children in Need of Services/Families in Need of Services
• Medication Assisted Treatment
• Primary Care
• Pharmacy
• Research Department
With more than 3,600 clients served through its services in the West Volusia area, SMA Healthcare has continued to increase its capacity on the west side of the county. SMA Healthcare will employ about 72 full-time positions at its new integrated healthcare facility.
The architect for this project is Dana M. Smith with DJ Design Services, and construction is being completed by A.M. Weigel Construction. Interior Design is being done by HDB Design Group, LLC, and the Civil Engineer is Zev Cohen & Associates.
“We are ready to see this new facility enter the West Volusia community,” stated COO Nicole Sharbono. “Individuals will be able to meet all of their healthcare needs at this location and receive the care and treatment that they deserve.”
SMA Healthcare has collaborated, and will continue to, with several community organizations to make this project a success. Those partners include: the City of DeLand, Volusia County Schools, West Volusia Hospital Authority, Volusia County, Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Department of Health, Circuit 7 Court Services, Halifax Health, AdventHealth, MiCare, Palmer Chiropractic, House Next Door, Neighborhood Center, Rising Against All Odds, Volusia Recovery Alliance, Foundations to Freedom, Community Partnership for Children, University of Florida Research Department, University of Florida OSHA Training/Certification, Stetson University, Lutheran Services of Florida, and the Department of Children and Families.
To date, roughly 60% of the funds needed for completion have been secured. The SMA Healthcare Foundation has announced that lead gifts for this exciting project were made by Mr. Gale Lemerand and Hyatt and Cici Brown.
