Prioritizing Self-Care

Prioritizing Self-Care

April 26th

Need a minute to breathe? Follow this exercise.

1. Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the ground

2. Place your hands in your lap and close your eyes

3. Take slow and controlled breaths

4. After 1 minute, slowly open your eyes and continue with your day

How do you feel now? If you participated in this meditation, you may feel more relaxed and at ease. Take this as a reminder to find time in your busy day to focus on yourself. Whether it’s a Monday morning or Friday night, stress can appear at any time. Since stress is experienced by almost everyone, some individuals may choose to overlook it without taking the time to process how it is impactingthem. Self-care is a necessary way to handle stress and put more focus on what’s important.

From painting a picture to going on a walk, positive activities can be found in many forms. Self-care is about participating in activities that bring genuine joy and peace to your day. Prioritizing yourself and what brings you happiness is the best way to boost energy.

Every individual is different and has the ability to find the self-care that works for them. These tend to be activities that work to improve your physical and mental health. While managing your stress, self-care tools work to increase your energy and improve your daily life.

Here are a few of the many examples of self-care that can work to help you relieve stress:

1. Go for a walk or run

2. Read a book

3. Meditate

4. Listen to a podcast

5. Volunteer in your area

6. Cook/eat a healthy meal

7. Journal

8. Watch the sunrise/sunset

9. Prioritize sleep

10. Drink more water

The list goes on-and-on as there is always a place for self-care your life. It is important to spend more time thinking about ourselves and how we can make our lives better.
